Flexible Installation Options for Edge Protection Barrier

Cast-In Socket Installation

During the main construction phase, the connecting sleeves are pre-embedded in the concrete structure. The protective system can be completed simply by installing the posts. With maximum overturn resistance, they are suitable for new buildings, industrial platforms, and those that require long-term fixed use.

Base Plate Installation

The edge protection barrier is fixed to the concrete foundation or steel structure platform by a flange base plate with expansion bolts or embedded bolts. It does not rely on space reserved during the initial construction process, more suitable for retrofitting edge protection, modifying equipment platforms, and upgrading existing buildings after construction is complete.

Slab Clamp Installation

Secured to the edge of the concrete floor slab using specialized floor clamps, this system requires no drilling, welding, or damage to the main structure, and can be quickly removed and reused once construction is complete. How to Determine the Height of the Edge Protection Barrier?

The height should be determined based on the construction location, fall risk and local safety regulations.

For most construction projects, a height of 1100–1300 mm is adopted, which can meet the requirements for edge protection of floor edges, roofs and construction platforms.

If it is applied in bridge construction, high-rise buildings or special high-risk areas, we recommend a higher specification of the edge protection system.

How Does the Edge Protection Barrier Adapt to Different Thicknesses of Floor Slabs?

We can provide different specifications of floor clamps for different thicknesses of concrete floor slabs. The common applicable range is 150–500 mm. We can also provide customization according to special structures.

The clamps are fixed by mechanical clamping and do not require the destruction of the main structure. After installation, they can be quickly disassembled and reused, making them highly suitable for main construction, bridge projects, and projects with frequent turnover.

What Are the Differences Between Hot-Dip Galvanizing and Powder Coating for Edge Protection Barriers?

Different surface treatments are suitable for different usage environments.

If the edge protection barrier needs to be used outdoors for a long time or undergo frequent turnover, it is generally recommended to use hot-dip galvanizing treatment. The zinc layer thickness can generally reach over 70 μm, which has excellent corrosion resistance. So the hot-dip galvanizing edge protection barriers are more suitable for bridge construction, roofing projects, and long-term exposed environments.

If the project also focuses on the appearance effect, it is more often to choose the duplex coating process after hot-dip galvanizing. This can further enhance the systems’ corrosion resistance while providing a more attractive appearance and a wide range of color options.

How Long Does It Take to Install the Edge Protection Barrier?

The edge protection barrier adopts a fully modular assembly design, allowing for quick installation. Under standard conditions, a single guardrail unit can usually be quickly assembled by two installers within 10 min. The specific installation period will vary depending on the project length, fixation method, on-site environment, and construction conditions.

What Requirements Should Be Noted When Installing the Edge Protection Barrier?
  • Before installing the edge protection barrier, it is necessary to first confirm the bearing capacity of the floor, steel structure, roof or platform, and select the appropriate fixation method based on the on-site structure.
  • In the roof application, most projects will select guardrails with an effective guard height of at least 1,100 millimeters (specific values should comply with local regulations and project requirements).
  • If there is a risk of tools, materials or components falling in the construction area, it is recommended to also configure toeboards. The height is usually no less than 150 mm, which can effectively prevent small tools, construction materials and construction debris from sliding from a high place.

What Items Need to Be Checked After the Edge Protection Barrier Is Installed?

It is recommended to conduct inspections after installation, as well as before strong winds, heavy rain, external impacts, or reinstallation.

The key points to check include whether the posts and fixtures are loose, whether the connecting bolts are tightened, whether the guardrail frame is deformed, whether the welds are cracked, whether the toeboards and connecting parts are complete. 

For temporary construction projects, please conduct a comprehensive inspection for the entire system before each re-assembly to ensure the structures are stable before it is put into use. 

Will the Independent Counterweight Edge Protection Barrier Be Blown down by Strong Winds?

No. Our counterweight barrier system is designed based on the height, span, local wind load and installation environment of the barrier. Through overall stability calculations, it ensures that the system meets the normal usage requirements.
